SMAS Worksafe Contractor
Since the launch of SSIP, many Clients and Principal Contractors now adopt a SSIP approach to H&S pre-qualification and will only use contractors who hold a valid and in date Scheme certificate issued by a SSIP Forum member.
Holding a valid SSIP Member Scheme certificate means that a contractor will have demonstrated their Stage 1 H&S competence by meeting the core criteria as set out in the Construction (Design and Management) regulations or the H&S module in PAS91.
A key aim of the SSIP Forum is to reduce the burden and cost of H&S bureaucracy across the construction industry and, as part of this, a Worksafe certificate will be recognised by the other SSIP members who offer mutual recognition – meaning that there should be no requirement to to complete a further full H&S assessment.
ISO 9000
ISO 9000 is maintained by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and is administered by accreditation and certification bodies. The rules are updated as the requirements motivate changes over time. Some of the requirements in ISO 9001:2008 (which is one of the standards in the ISO 9000 family) include:
CHAS
Over the years local authority health and safety and procurement professionals, with the support of the Health and Safety Executive, have developed the Contractor Health and Safety Assessment Scheme (CHAS). The scheme is available for use by any public and private sector organizations to use when shortlisting contractors, suppliers and consultants (companies) who apply to work for them.
SAFE Contractor
Safe Contractor is the fastest growing health and safety accreditation scheme in the UK, with more than 140 major clients and almost 18,000 contractor members. Registered members with the SAFEcontractor scheme include clients and contractors from a wide range of professional disciplines working within a number of industry industry sectors. With its increasing membership and growing profile in the UK, the SAFEcontractor scheme is now used by many large organisations as a way of obtaining competent contractors.
Constructionline
Guardian Doors are accredited to the UK's largest Government owned register of contractors and consultants for the construction industry. Constructionline provide an up-to-date register of pre-qualified suppliers for construction contracts and is a common sense solution that 8,000 buyers from over 2,000 organisations are already making the most of.
